The painting was created by Carl Wilhelmson who was a Swedish painter, draftsman, graphic artist, art educator and professor at the Royal College of Art. Wilhelmson's paintings from 1893 onwards show a certain kinship with August Hagborg's French folk life paintings, but where Wilhelmson depicts the everyday and with a more greyscale color scale.
